Feb 10-13th will be the annual Scholastic Book Fair and a pop up book shop will be held in our very own A.R. Lord Library. This event is loved by kids and a great way for parents/ caregivers to get involved and help run the book shop before and after school (with early dismissal days). Can you help with setup, cash sales, or teardown? We can't run this event without our dedicated family volunteers. It is a great way to promote literacy and the love of reading! Proceeds go towards the purchase of books for our school library and classrooms. Please Signup online for volunteer shifts: Book Fair Hours

The new Hot Lunch Schedule has been posted for the Winter/Spring period. Food options for February to May 2020 include regular and vegetarian options for Thai, Japanese, Sandwiches, Burgers, Indian, Pizza, and Frozen Yogurt. Check out the Hot Lunch Program Tab for more details and ordering.
www.arlordpac.ca/hotlunch.html Note that you must order at least One week in advance for each event - but we recommend that you order for the whole term at once. Ordering in one transaction minimizes the administrative transaction fees paid to our online order provider and keeps more money in the school. (Notice sent from VSB on Jan 23rd)
Dear Parents/Guardians, We have been asked to share the following Public Health information with you regarding the Novel Coronavirus. Coastal Health Medical Health Officers are monitoring reports of the novel coronavirus (named 2019-nCoV), first identified in Wuhan, China. While there have been cases identified outside of China, all of these individuals are known to have recently travelled to the Wuhan area. Public Health officials are working together to ensure that any unusual illness in arriving travellers is being appropriately screened. Physicians have also been requested to notify Public Health of any illness of concern in patients who were recently in the Wuhan area. The Vancouver School District has been advised that the risk to the general public, including school-age children, is very low. Medical Health Officers continue to monitor the situation closely, and will provide further advice and information as it becomes available. At this time, reports indicate that, similar to influenza, this virus is spread when a sick person coughs or sneezes. Most of the reported cases are only showing mild symptoms and are well enough to stay home. As with influenza, elderly people and those with underlying health conditions are more likely to develop severe disease and require hospitalization. In the meantime, we would remind everyone to follow proper hygiene etiquette during the cold & flu season. This includes proper hand-washing with soap and water, covering your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing, and staying home when you are sick. Sincerely, Dr. A. R. Lord Elementary School Thursday January 30th is PAC Hot Lunch day for those who have pre-ordered. Fruit/Veg, milk & Chinese food menu selections are being served. Specialized art lessons will be brought into A.R. Lord with a focus on nature, birds and habitats. It is a great way for students to explore visual and and performance art.
Arts Umbrella is "where young artists ages 2–22 cultivate their creativity in Dance, Theatre, and Art & Design. As a non-profit centre for arts education, we believe that art is powerful. Powerful enough to change kids’ lives in incredible ways. When young people connect with the arts, they gain self-confidence, develop self-discipline, and discover creative expression—qualities they carry with them for life." A second session will be carried out for remaining classrooms later in March. Communicating Student Learning Reports will delivered on January 31st. These report cards outline areas of growth / strength / competency / skills and how to support your child. Parent Teacher Conferences will be scheduled Feb 12 and 13th afternoon/evening and are early dismissal days.
