Please bring your old markers from work, home, daycare, etc., and add them to one of our collection bins.
Our school takes part in a program to recycle used markers (any brand of felt-tip markers — permanent markers, colouring markers, white board markers, highlighters, etc.). These are collected and then sent to a facility that will turn them into alternative clean fuel. Most teachers should have collection bins in their classrooms that get emptied into a bin in the hallway. There is one bin by the front desk, and another downstairs in the hallway outside the gym. Over the last 2 years, we have recycled 920 markers! To find out more about the program, which is run by Crayola, visit ColorCycle.

Would you like advanced notice of PAC events where food will be served?
Does your child follow a special diet due to allergies, intolerances, a medical condition, or for religious, cultural, or philosophical reasons? As the parent of two children with severe allergies, I like to know ahead of time about PAC events that will have food. That way, I can either work with the organizers to find a safe choice for my kids, or I can have time to prepare a nice alternative that they can bring from home. I know there are other kids at the school who, for one reason or another, can't always have the food that is being served at events. I would like to start sending out notifications to those who want them, so people can find out the details of what is coming up. Please sign up to our special eblast below or, drop a note in the PAC box at the front desk of the school, if you would like to get advance notice of any food-related PAC events or if you have any questions about this. (Please note that this only covers PAC-organized events. Food in classrooms is something you would need to discuss with your classroom teacher.) Thanks, Sarah MacKinnon Member-at-large Last year, at the Year End Celebration, one of our teachers, Mrs. Burke won the grand prize of a trip for 2 to anywhere that WestJet flies. In August she and her husband went on a trip to London, England and then went to Eastern Europe. They had a wonderful time, saw lots of amazing places and did many exciting activities. They went to see the Crown Jewels in London and went on the London Eye (a big ferris wheel). They went on a paddle boat in Prague and saw the famous "dancing house" building designed by Frank Gehry. They saw many beautiful castles, churches and buildings. They even went to see a Shakespeare play in a round theatre. Here are a few pictures of their adventures. Mr. and Mrs. Burke would like to thank WestJet and the McGarry family for donating this amazing prize to our school as a fundraiser. To allow all parents to participate we have monthly Parent Advisory Council Meetings. All meetings are held in the Dr. AR Lord Elementary Library. Free child minding is provided. Please plan to attend these meetings.
